TUI waved off its first flight to Sal, Cape Verde, this week from Newcastle International Airport.
Yesterday marked the beginning of the leading global travel and leisure company’s new year-round service to this popular beach destination.
Cape Verde is an African country renowned for its Caribbean characteristics, with white-sand beaches, turquoise blue ocean and brightly coloured villages. Located off the west African coast, Sal is the most popular island in the Cape Verde archipelago, and its geographical location makes it the perfect escape for holidaymakers looking to relax in a sunnier climate 12 months of the year.
The weekly flight adds another fantastic destination onto the departure board for TUI at the North East’s largest Airport, adding to other popular direct destinations such as Orlando, Cancun, Enfidha, Antalya and Majorca.
Alongside Sal, TUI also recently commenced another brand-new route from the region – with year-round flights to Sharm El Sheikh, on Egypt’s Red Sea coastline, also taking off this month.
Leon McQuaid, Director of Aviation Development, said: “We are delighted that TUI have reacted to feedback from the North East travelling public and have added Sal, Cape Verde to their holiday programme from Newcastle International Airport.
“This investment represents TUI’s confidence in the Airport and their commitment to providing even more choice for passengers.
“With flights and package holidays on sale until Spring 2025, TUI now serve 29 sun and city destinations from the region, and thanks to their biggest ever programme on sale, we look forward to welcoming even more passengers through our doors.”
TUI’s Commercial Director, Phillip Iveson, said: “The inaugural flight from Newcastle International Airport to Sal, Cape Verde, marks an exciting new chapter for people in the North East, who now have more choice and flexibility when it comes to choosing their dream holiday.
“Cape Verde is well known for its year-round sun, and we are confident those flying from Newcastle Airport will enjoy all the island has to offer. At TUI, we’re really proud of our unrivalled regional flying program and Newcastle International Airport is such an important part of this.
“We’re looking forward to continuing to grow this partnership by adding even more destinations to our flying program such as today’s inaugural flight”.
Earlier this year, TUI announced its biggest ever holiday programme from Newcastle International Airport for summer 2024. The UK’s leading global travel and leisure company will base an additional fifth aircraft at the Airport, adding further choice for 2024 across their portfolio of 29 destinations in 12 countries, with an extra 120,000 seats on sale compared to summer 2023.
