The Biscuit Factory partners with St Oswald’s Hospice to launch fundraising initiative

The Biscuit Factory, the UK’s largest independent commercial art gallery, is excited to announce a new partnership with St Oswald’s Hospice in Gosforth to support their vital services through a special fundraising initiative.

The collaboration has been launched with a raffle featuring an original painting by renowned local artist, Anthony Marshall. The painting, which depicts the serene lily pond in the Adult Inpatient Unit garden of St Oswald’s, was specially created for the fundraiser and is part of Anthony’s autumn exhibition at The Biscuit Factory. Known for his evocative landscapes and cityscapes, Anthony was inspired by photographs of the hospice’s tranquil garden, sparking a new ‘garden’ series within his body of work.

Kathryn Tye, Strategy & Communications Manager at The Biscuit Factory, expressed her enthusiasm for the partnership: “We’re delighted that Anthony generously agreed to donate this original painting to help us raise funds for St Oswald’s. His passion for the project was immediate when he saw the garden images. This marks the beginning of an exciting series of initiatives supporting such a vital facility that we’re incredibly fortunate to have in the North East.”

St Oswald’s Hospice, a cornerstone of care in the North East, provides expert, compassionate care to children and adults with life-limiting conditions, as well as vital support for their families. The hospice’s Adult Inpatient Unit garden, one of 32 on the premises, holds a special place in the hearts of patients, offering a peaceful escape for reflection, relaxation, and even family celebrations.

Anne Tuck, Matron of the Adult Inpatient Unit at St Oswald’s, emphasised the importance of the garden to the patients: “For many, being outside and feeling the wind or seeing the sunshine is something deeply meaningful. I’ll always remember one patient laying out a towel on the grass and sunbathing—it was such a simple yet profound moment of joy.”

The fundraising raffle was officially launched at a private preview event on Friday, 27 September, at The Biscuit Factory. The painting is now displayed in the gallery’s autumn exhibition, which opened to the public on Saturday, 28 September.

Funds raised through the raffle will directly support St Oswald’s Hospice’s broad range of services, helping them continue to provide exceptional care for those facing life-limiting illnesses. Find out more: https://www.thebiscuitfactory.com/
