Ryder Architecture posts latest financial accounts

The award winning international design practice, headquartered in Newcastle, has posted its latest annual accounts showing a strong underlying commercial performance despite the challenging economic environment.

For the financial year ending 30 April 2024, Ryder’s UK turnover was £31.6m (+4.6% on 2023), generating pre tax profits of £2.4m (+60.2%). Overall Ryder employs 350 people across its UK and international locations.

Mark Thompson, managing partner, said: “It’s been a tough geopolitical climate for all businesses. We feel like we’ve been treading water for the past two years as clients continue, understandably, to err on the side of caution amid inflation, interest rates pressures and increased bureaucracy and legislation in response to Grenfell. However, there’s now a sense that projects are starting to progress, but still not at the pace required to generate long term confidence.”

Ryder’s work is spread as far afield as Australia and Canada with an impressive portfolio across the length and breadth of the UK in most core cities and regions. The resilience of Ryder is based on an established reputation in the core sectors of education, healthcare, hospitality, manufacturing, office, residential and science. Emerging sectors include hospitality and sport.

Significant projects underway across the UK include major residential led regeneration projects in and around London, a new chain of hotels nationally, and the National Rehabilitation Centre for Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. Long term relationships with the MoD and Scottish Futures Trust provide another rich vein of work, including schools, across Scotland.

Closer to its Newcastle roots, Ryder is leading the design team on the regeneration of East Pilgrim Street in the city centre.

Mark added: “The past year has seen the evolution of BIM Academy with the launch of Okana – our built environment specialist consultancy with global reach. We were also delighted to be recognised in the prestigious Building awards, being crowned Architectural Practice of the year (again) and our standing as the leading construction business in the Best Companies to Work For league tables. Thanks to our clients and our people for their continued business and contributions respectively.”
