Dance City to Host highly anticipated Dance Performances at the Festival of Korean Dance 2025

Dance City is proud to announce its participation in the highly anticipated Festival of Korean Dance 2025, a celebration of cutting-edge contemporary dance from South Korea. The festival, running from May 7th to May 24th, will bring together some of the country’s most innovative dance companies, showcasing an exciting range of performances across multiple venues, including The Place, Pavilion Dance South West, Lowry, and Dance City.

This year’s festival marks its eighth edition, featuring five leading South Korean companies, including the renowned Korea National Contemporary Dance Company (KNCDC). Dance City will be hosting two extraordinary performances on May 15th: “0g (zero grams)” by the Melancholy Dance Company and “A Complementary Set_Disappearing with an Impact” by the Choi x Kang Project.

The festival opens on May 7th at The Place with Jungle by the Korea National Contemporary Dance Company, a visceral exploration of survival through instinctive movement, performed by a dynamic 17-dancer ensemble. Jungle makes its highly anticipated UK debut after rave reviews across Europe.

On May 15th, Dance City presents a captivating double bill. “0g (zero grams)” by the Melancholy Dance Company delves into the paradox of daily life, using gravity-defying choreography inspired by the myth of Sisyphus. With its blend of free-fall movement and acrobatic virtuosity, the piece explores the limits of human endurance, drawing audiences into its mesmerizing physicality. Following this is “A Complementary Set_Disappearing with an Impact” by Choi x Kang Project, a thought-provoking fusion of video and live performance that challenges perceptions of reality and identity through an innovative multimedia lens.

Christina Elliot, Head of Programming and Producing at The Place, comments, “This year’s festival offers a fascinating journey through the depth of contemporary choreography in Korea. Each performance invites audiences to reflect on the human experience, providing a fresh and thought-provoking perspective on the world.”

Dance City is thrilled to be part of this celebration of contemporary Korean dance, offering audiences an opportunity to experience some of the most daring and imaginative works in the global dance scene. From breathtaking acrobatics to multimedia explorations of identity, the Festival of Korean Dance promises to be an unforgettable experience.
