After a sell-out success in 2019, artist, actor and comedian Jim Moir (aka Vic Reeves) makes a return to Newcastle this March with a brand new collection of art, at The Biscuit Factory Ouseburn.
Ahead of a new Sky Arts show, Painting Birds with Jim and Nancy Moir, due to air later this year, Jim’s forthcoming exhibition ‘Hot Buttered Mattress’ will include a collection of ornithological paintings and drawings including his famous ‘Bird Colour Wheel’, as well as selected pieces from his recent catalogue.
Better known as his alter-ego Vic Reeves, who he plans to retire after this year, Jim Moir has always had a love of painting, and has been doing so since the 1980s. Growing up with artist parents, Moir was immersed in a creative environment at a young age and encouraged to pursue his own artistic endeavours. Over the years that has included painting, drawing, photography and sculpture, with Moir maintaining his love of art throughout his television career. “Painting is what I always wanted to do,” Moir said in a recent Guardian interview. “Even while doing Vic and Bob shows, the art was always there, even when it might have looked like it was in the background. Now, though, I can sit in my studio all day, with my own schedule.”
Rachel Brown, General Manager of The Biscuit Factory, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Jim back to the gallery for the third time this March. It’s a privilege to be the only space in the North East that exhibits Jim’s work, and to see different elements of his practice unfold over the years we’ve worked with him is a joy.”
Fans and collectors of Moir’s work can expect to see this exhibition on display at The Biscuit Factory art gallery from 4 March until 2 April, with all works available to purchase.
