Aspiring to help: Running the Extra Mile to Support Local Charities

Colleagues at Aspire Technology Solutions showcased their dedication by participating in the Great North Run to support local charities

This past weekend, the dedicated team members of Gateshead-based Aspire Technology Solutions donned their running shoes and participated in the iconic Great North Run, demonstrating their commitment to supporting local charitable causes.

Among the standout participants was Bob McKay, Operations Director at Aspire, who turned heads and inspired onlookers as he completed the race with a 200-litre food tin strapped to his back. This feat was all in the name of raising essential funds for the Newcastle Foodbank, one of the UK’s busiest foodbanks, which provides essential emergency food assistance to more than 18,000 individuals annually.

Meanwhile, Nicola Mogie-Pickering and Justin Godfrey two members of the Aspire Teesside team, tackled the half marathon journey to support The Teesside Charity. A charity which plays a pivotal role in offering financial support to community groups and charities that promote social well-being and aid those who are disadvantaged.

Notably, just last week, Justin conquered the brutal ‘Man versus Mountain’ endurance race—a demanding 22-mile run up Mount Snowdon in Wales—all to support The Teesside Charity.

Together, the Aspire trio has managed to raise over £3,000 and counting, thanks to the generosity of donors who continue to pour in their support.

As one of the largest IT managed service and cyber security providers in the UK, Aspire isn’t just a bystander in the Great North Run; they’ve been a steadfast supporter for over five years, ensuring seamless communication at the event’s start and finish lines with their Ultrafast Dedicated Connectivity solution.

Bob McKay, Operations Director at Aspire, summed up their commitment by saying, “The Great North Run is one of the most famous and significant half marathons, and it’s an absolute honour to take part. Aspire has had a longstanding partnership with organisers The Great Run Company, and we are extremely proud to collaborate with them. At Aspire, our mission has always been to deliver technology like no other and make a meaningful difference in the communities we serve. I’m thrilled to be a part of this mission, where technology and community support go hand in hand.”
