Pizza lovers are in for a treat with the opening of a new PizzaExpress in Dalton Park Shopping Centre, Murton, County Durham. The restaurant, which can seat 166 people, means jobs for 30 new team members, including 10 pizzaiolos and 13 waiters and waitresses. An estimated 575 kilos of dough will be used in the first month as the team prepares to serve up 4,000 pizzas and 1,000 portions of PizzaExpress’ iconic Dough Balls.
Each PizzaExpress restaurant is individually designed – often using well known places, people or historical events from the area as the basis. The new restaurant features large artworks reflecting the heritage of nearby Murton village over a hundred years ago. These include photographs, courtesy of East-Durham.co.uk, of Murton Ale Stores as well as musicians playing in an ornate bandstand.
The restaurant’s décor has a rich, earthy colour palette, combined with a carefully curated mix of textures and materials, resulting in a relaxed and intimate atmosphere. Diners can admire the skill and flair of the pizzaiolos as they create delicious pizza in the heart of the restaurant.
Richard Curry, manager of PizzaExpress Dalton Park, said, “We will have a beautiful new restaurant and can’t wait to show it off to our customers. We have a friendly and enthusiastic team who are looking forward to welcoming everyone over a delicious pizza.”
The opening coincides with the launch of three new summer specials to celebrate the Olympic Games in Rio. The Barbacoa Romana pizza offers a taste of Brazil’s famous dry rubbed barbecue. Back by customer demand is the Eton Mess Cheesecake, this time with the addition of a layer of dulce de leche, a traditional Latin American treat, made from sweetened milk. Also bringing a taste of the tropics is a zesty drink based on passionfruit, native to Brazil.
For younger pizza-lovers, PizzaExpress’ Piccolo menu is full of tasty choices including ‘Create Your Own’ pizza, and starts at just £3.95.
