A capsule collection of original pieces by Jim Moir will appear at The Biscuit Factory, Newcastle for a short exhibition from 31 July – 11 August.
‘Bridges of Newcastle’ is a niche collection of polaroid photos of bridges over the River Tyne captured by Jim Moir in the early ’90s when he was on tour with ‘The Smell of Reeves and Mortimer’. Each polaroid has been paired with small watercolour interpretations painted by Jim using ‘water from the Tyne’.
The ‘pop up’ showcase marks the fourth time Moir – known for his comedic alter ego ‘Vic Reeves’ – has worked with the Newcastle gallery to showcase his developing catalogue of original art. The Biscuit Factory last hosted Moir for his extensive exhibition ‘Hot Buttered Mattress’ last year, which included new works inspired by his ‘Painting Birds with Jim and Nancy’ television series, alongside archive sketches and his now infamous ‘British Bird Colour Wheel’ (currently featured in the Royal Academy’s Summer Exhibition).
General Manager, Rachel Brown, said: “It’s been a joy to work with Jim over recent years to bring such a variety of work to the gallery, and although it’s a small collection, this time is no exception. We look forward to welcoming people to The Biscuit Factory to see the display in the coming weeks and to be able to showcase another example of Jim’s creativity.
