Regarded as one of the best festivals for children in the UK, Juice – NewcastleGateshead’s festival for children and young people, returns this October half term (Friday 25 October – Sunday 03 November 2013), promising ten days of performance, art, theatre, music and Halloween activities.
Created by NewcastleGateshead Initiative, Juice Festival celebrates its sixth birthday in 2013. This year’s festival programme includes:
- Just Jam International at Dance City
Saturday 26 & Sunday 27 October
Some of the best b-boys and b-girls from across Europe and beyond will once again be battling it out at the Just Jam one-on-one battle on Sunday 27 October as part of Juice Festival. B-boys and B-girls from BirdGang, Ill Abilities and Ghost Crew will also be sharing their breakdancing skills in a series of special workshops at Dance City on Saturday 26 October
- ZigZag ZigZag by Inne Gorris at Gateshead Old Town Hall
Monday 28 – Wednesday 30 October
Inspired by David Grossman’s much-loved story, The Zig Zag Kid, this live theatre production tells the story of 12-year-old boys Nono and Chaim and their magical adventures which see their lives change forever.
- The Big Juice Read at Gateshead Central Library and Newcastle City Library
Saturday 26 October
Author Tommy Donbavand is joined by performers from NORTH Young Company to celebrate this year’s Big Juice Read, ‘Fangs’, the story of the secret agent Vampire.
- Juice Art Jam III at the CoMusica Arches (behind Sage Gateshead)
Saturday 26 October
Top names in the UK Urban Art Scene once again descend on NewcastleGateshead for another day of inspiring graffiti artwork. As well as the chance to leave your mark, there’s also the opportunity to try your hand at clothing customisation and learn new drawing skills from Bristol-based artist, Andy Council.
- A Spooky Night at the Museum at Discovery Museum
Thursday 31 October
Have you ever wondered what goes on inside a museum after it closes at night? Now’s your chance as Discovery Museum hosts a night of Halloween adventure on Thursday 31 October, including a spooky circus, ghostly trails and lots more fun activities for all the family.
- A Magical World at Lawnmowers Independent Theatre Company
Friday 1 November
Specially created for children with learning difficulties and disabilities, and their families, take a journey through rooms and corridors that spring to life with music and theatre and become part of the performance.
- Juice Festival Finale Parade starting at Baltic Square
Sunday 3 November
Become a dream catcher in this special pre-bedtime parade across the Gateshead Millennium Bridge. Come dressed in your best onesie as we celebrate Juice Festival in style with live music from Sage Gateshead’s young musicians and some special puppet creations from Unfolding Theatre.
