Laser Light City will be returning to Newcastle’s Quayside this year for one night only on New Years Eve, with a bigger and better light and music show including dynamic lasers, huge projections and stunning pyrotechnics providing both families and revellers the ideal place to welcome in 2024.
BAFTA award-winning artist Seb Lee-Delisle will again be curating the show, which can be enjoyed at 6pm, 9pm and 12 midnight on Sunday 31 December – the day that most people said they would most like to attend.
Visitors will be able to enjoy a whole host of awe-inspiring lasers, lighting and pyrotechnics projected onto the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Arts, accompanied by a bespoke soundtrack. A new location this year, with the best place to view being on Newcastle Quayside, opposite the Baltic, between the Millennium Bridge and St Ann’s Quay and near the Pitcher and Piano.
Cllr Alex Hay, Cabinet member for a Thriving City at Newcastle City Council said: “As we move towards New Year’s Eve and the start of what we hope is a very happy 2024 for everyone, I am delighted that we can continue to provide local people and visitors to the city with a free, high quality and accessible event that can be enjoyed by all ages at different times. And the added advantage is that it is also kind to the environment.
“Laser Light City has been incredibly popular over the last two years, and each year we refine the event to make it even better. That’s why this year the decision has been made to make the focus New Year’s Eve only, allowing for the shows to be bigger and more impactful.
“Newcastle City Council and NE1 continue to work closely together to develop Newcastle’s Christmas offer year on year, and I look forward to visiting the Quayside to experience the fabulous and improved laser show, as I’m sure many others are.”
Ben Whitfield, Director of Communications at NE1 Ltd said: “We are delighted that the seasonal celebrations won’t stop on Christmas Day and will continue into the New Year with the exciting return of the revamped Laser Light City, an amazing must-see show and the best way to ring in 2024.
“We have worked hard to make this year’s event even more spectacular, a one-night-only extravaganza that will restore the sense of occasion and focus on New Year’s Eve. With more lights, more lasers and pyrotechnics, the display will be a riot for the senses with the show accompanied by a bespoke musical score.
‘The Newcastle Quayside will remain the focus of the action with Baltic as the canvas for the show, as well as performers and street entertainers keeping the crowds entertained before and after each show. It is a celebration not to be missed and one that will bring a real buzz to the city.”
