Experience the thrill of the cockpit in a new RAF Red Arrows flight simulator at Discovery Museum.
The state-of-the-art red capsule seats six – eight people for an immersive ride over the glorious landscape of the Cyprus, with high definition images, surround sound and dynamic motion.
The ride costs £3.50 per person and a minimum height restriction of 1.07m applies. Tickets can be bought on the day from the museum’s reception desk on a first-come first-served basis for allocated time-slots.
Carolyn Ball, Manager of Discovery Museum said:
“The RAF Red Arrow flight simulator is an exciting new addition for Discovery Museum.
“It’s fantastic to introduce this in the year the Great North Run celebrates its 40th anniversary as The Red Arrow displays for this event are legendary.”
When the Red Arrows pilot’s eye flight view was captured, it was the first time the RAF consented to access of the Red Arrows. Ben Murphy, Red Leader at the time the film was made, said the film ‘is as close as you will get to being on the back seat’.
With a pilot’s commentary on the manoeuvres, the usual 25 minutes Red Arrows display was edited down to six minutes to best suit the motion of the simulator.
An RAF Red Arrows flyby is a fixture in the Tyneside calendar as they regularly celebrate the iconic Great North Run held between Newcastle and South Shields every year; 2020 sees the 40th anniversary of the Great North Run.
The company bringing the simulator to the museum, Metropolis, has worked with the Science Museum, London and other high profile attractions all over the world.
Discovery Museum is open weekdays 10am – 4pm, weekends 11am – 4pm and closed on Bank Holidays; free entry, donations welcome.
