Newcastle Falcons are proud to announce the launch of a special charity third kit in collaboration with Alzheimer’s Society, highlighting the club’s commitment to raising awareness and funds for the fight against dementia.
A special kit for a special cause
The new third kit, which will be worn during select matches in the upcoming season, features a unique design incorporating Alzheimer’s Society’s distinctive blue colour and forget-me-not flower emblem, which represents hope and the dedication to helping those affected by dementia.
The Falcons’ third kit is not just a new look for the team, but a statement of solidarity with the millions of people worldwide living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.
Understanding Dementia
Dementia is an umbrella term used to describe a range of progressive neurological disorders, with Alzheimer’s disease being the most common. It affects memory, thinking, orientation, comprehension, calculation, learning capacity, language, and judgement.
There are currently around one million people living with dementia in the UK, and this number is projected to rise to over 1.4 million by 2040.
Dementia does not just affect the individual diagnosed but also has a profound impact on their families and caregivers, often causing significant emotional, physical and financial strain.
An early and accurate diagnosis, along with access to timely support and information is crucial for managing the condition and improving the quality of life for those affected.
Supporting Alzheimer’s Society
Alzheimer’s Society is the UK’s leading dementia charity, working tirelessly to improve the lives of those affected by dementia through support services, pioneering research, and campaigning for change.
By partnering with Alzheimer’s Society, Newcastle Falcons aim to contribute to the charity’s mission of creating a world where dementia no longer devastates lives.
Head of Retail and Ticketing at Newcastle Falcons, Alison Carthy, said:
“We are incredibly proud to partner with the Alzheimer’s Society and launch this special third kit.
“Dementia is a cause close to many of our hearts, and we hope that through this initiative, we can make a significant impact in raising awareness and funds to support those affected by this condition.”
Chief Executive of Alzheimer’s Society, Kate Lee, said:
“We are delighted to partner with Newcastle Falcons for the upcoming season to raise vital awareness of dementia and launch this incredible third kit.
“One in three people born in the UK today will develop dementia in their lifetime, and thousands are living with undiagnosed dementia – with many thinking the terminal condition is a natural part of ageing, unsure of what the symptoms are and too afraid to visit a GP.
“We look forward to working closely with the team to raise vital funds and awareness of dementia amongst the rugby community, and ultimately get fans and all those affected by this devastating condition the support they desperately need”.
Ben Lovell, Commercial Director of VX3, commented:
“VX3 is delighted to be working with the Newcastle Falcons on the launch of the Alzheimer’s Society charity kit.
“We are incredibly proud of the unique design of the shirt, which was developed in close collaboration with the Falcons and Alzheimer’s Society to create a standout kit.
“The pattern and colour of the shirt are inspired by the forget-me-not symbol, making it a meaningful and eye-catching tribute.
“This partnership not only highlights the Falcons’ commitment to important causes but also demonstrates the power of collaboration in creating something truly special.
“We believe this initiative will significantly raise awareness and support for the Alzheimer’s Society.”
