Newcastle International Airport has been awarded ‘Star UK Airport’ for the second year in a row at the glittering Travel Bulletin Star Awards 2023 in London.
For the last 25 years these highly regarded awards, organised by the UK’s leading travel trade news publications, have celebrated excellence in the travel industry.
The ceremony saw global destinations, worldwide operators, airlines, UK airports and travel agencies come together to pick up a range of coveted awards – all voted for by UK travel professionals.
Last night Newcastle International Airport took home the only airport award and was proudly crowned ‘Star UK Airport’ for the second consecutive year.
The Airport was recognised for its exceptional on-the-road support for local travel agents and industry-leading initiatives for driving awareness and sales for its airline partners – including bespoke training courses, an annual travel trade roadshow and one-to-one support.
Leon McQuaid, Director of Aviation Development at Newcastle International Airport said: “It has been an exciting 12 months at Newcastle International which has seen us welcome 4 new airline partners and 30 new routes.
“We were also ranked one of the Top UK Airports by Which?, named one of the least stressful Airports in Europe by Conde Nast Traveller and named ‘Airport of the Year – under 5 million passengers’ at the global World Routes conference.
“Taking home UK Star Airport at the prestigious Travel Bulletin Awards last night has been the icing on the cake and I would like to thank all of my colleagues across the Airport for their dedication and hard work that results in us being able to take home awards such as this one.”
Laura Hartshorne, Senior Aviation Sales Executive at Newcastle International said: “This is an extremely special award as it is voted for by the travel industry. To win for a second consecutive year is a fantastic achievement for the whole team at Newcastle Airport and a wonderful way to end a successful 2023.
“The Airport is investing significantly in the passenger experience ahead of the summer 2024 and I look forward to showcasing the results of this hard work with the travel trade and our passengers next year!”
