North East leisure group scoops second award

A North East leisure group is raising a glass to celebrate, after one of its properties was named North East Pub and Bar of the Year in a national awards ceremony.

The Three Mile, at Gosforth, Newcastle took home the prestigious title after beating off strong competition from Durham and Northumberland in the National Pub and Bar Awards.

The pub, owned by Malhotra Group PLC, had already been named the winner for Tyne and Wear, before going on to the national finals.

And it has now gone on to win even further recognition, after taking the top honour for the North East.

This is not the first time that a Malhotra Group outlet has taken the award and the latest win follows in the footsteps of sister venue, Leila Lily’s at Gray Street, Newcastle which won it in 2021.

The historic Three Mile site was taken over by the Malhotra Group who invested more than £7.5m in it before reopening in 2020, creating the purpose-built Great North Hotel as well as refurbishing the previously existing pub facilities.

And that investment has now paid off, culminating in winning both the Tyne and Wear and the regional title.

“This a fantastic awards for us to win, particularly when it’s one that is chosen by our industry,” said Vaz Malhotra, Operations Director.

“We know we were up against some very tough competition from across the North East so it’s really gratifying that the judges have recognised the hard work everyone has put in to make the Three Mile such a success.

“We have fantastic customers and a really amazing team and this is definitely down to them.”
