Social value and sustainability apprenticeship first for the North East

One of the country’s leading construction companies Morgan Sindall Construction, has joined forces with Gateshead College to launch the region’s first social value and sustainability apprenticeship.

Starting this September, the new Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability Practitioner Apprenticeship is the first of its kind based in the North East and amongst the first in the UK.

The apprenticeship also has the royal seal of approval in recognition of its green credentials and has been endorsed by His Majesty the King.

As businesses increasingly prioritise social value and sustainability, Morgan Sindall is the first company in the North East to sign up for the new apprenticeship and is currently recruiting its first apprentice.

Alex Isted, Area Director at Morgan Sindall Construction, said:

“We are excited to partner with Gateshead College on this significant initiative. This new apprenticeship is exceptionally important for Morgan Sindall, as a responsible business that’s committed to providing vital and advanced skills for the next generation of construction professionals.

“At a time when it’s more important than ever for businesses to have social value and sustainability embedded into operations, this apprenticeship will be instrumental in helping us achieve our goals and developing our in-house expertise. We look forward to seeing our first apprentice grow and contribute to our social and environmental ambitions.”

The higher-level apprenticeship will equip organisations with the expertise needed to drive social and environmental change. Designed for those passionate about the environment, it prepares individuals to be the social conscience of their organisation and to spearhead pioneering sustainability initiatives.

Andi Teasdale, senior business account manager at Gateshead College, said:

“We’re thrilled to be working with Morgan Sindall to launch this new apprenticeship.

“The North East has made clear its ambitions to drive forward a greener and fairer place to live, work and study, so it seems the perfect time to launch this apprenticeship and help forward thinking businesses develop their inhouse expertise.”

The new apprenticeship offers organisations a unique opportunity to either create a new role or upskill a current employee, ensuring they have the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in corporate responsibility and sustainability roles.
