On your marks … entries open today!
The hottest ticket in Toon goes on sale at 10AM today as the 2023 AJ Bell Junior Mini Great North run opens for entry. Forget the cup final, move over Glastonbury, the country’s biggest kids run is expected to be a sell-out event once again.
Thousands of budding runners will descend on the NewcastleGateshead Quayside on Saturday 9 September 2023, the day before the iconic AJ Bell Great North Run.
Mini athletes from 3-8 (and their grown-ups!) will have the chance to take on a 1.5km loop of the Quayside. Junior runners aged 8-16 will be able to take on the more challenging 4KM course.
The Mini 50, a short course for children who wouldn’t ordinarily be able to participate in the age group events, due to their specific needs, will be part of the timetable again in 2023.
The AJ Bell Junior Mini Great North Run gives children the opportunity to get active and experience the thrill of a large-scale event, complete with medal and goody bag.
Paul Foster, Chief Executive of The Great Run Company, said: “The AJ Bell Junior and Mini Great North Run is the country’s biggest kids running event.
“Last year over 9,000 young runners took on their own personal challenge on the Quayside and experienced that finish line feeling.
“It’s always a highlight of the AJ Bell Great North Run weekend and we hope the experience of taking part ignites a lifelong love of running and staying active.”
Entries for all age categories will open on Wednesday 1 March at 10AM. For more information or to enter visit greatrun.org
